TGIC (Triglycidyl isocyanurate)
TGIC (Triglycidyl isocyanurate) is a heterocyclic epoxy compound with a molecular weight of 297 (CAS No.: 2451-62-9) which is widely used in paint, chemical, electronic and other industries. It has excellent heat resistance, weather resistance, adhesion and high temperature performance.
Main uses:
- As a crosslinking curing agent for pure polyester powder coatings;
- As a crosslinking curing agent of polyacrylate (PA) containing carboxyl group;
- To prepare high-performance insulating electrical materials, self-extinguishing polymer materials (stabilizers of flame retardants), modified epoxy resins, prepare high efficiency adhesives and crosslinking curing agents for PCB ink.
In the manufacture of powder coatings, triglycidyl isocyanurate granules are mixed with other ingredients, the mix is then melted and extruded as a brittle sheet, chipped, and packaged. Generally, the particle size of 90-95% of the powder coating is >10 um. Powder coatings usually contain 4-10% triglycidyl isocyanurate and are sprayed onto metal objects by an electrostatic process. The coated metal objects are then treated in an oven to a temperature of about 200°C. This heating causes the powder coatings to melt, flow, and chemically cross-link. The coatings are durable and resist ultraviolet damage; as a result, they are typically used in outdoor applications. The two-part inks contain approximately 60% triglycidyl isocyanurate in the hardener component. The inks are applied by curtain coating, electrostatic spraying, or screen printing. The coated circuit board is finally passed through an oven at 150°C to complete the curing.
Common properties and characteristics of TGIC:
- Density: 1,33 g/cm3
- No odor at room temperature
- Melting point: Pure TGIC has melting point about 95-97°C.
- Poorly soluble in water (Solubility in water: 0.9 g/100 mL at 25 °C)
- High Cross-Linking density with excellent heat resistance & thermosetting performance
- Minimum UV and lighting absorption provide with superb visibility
- Disperse fine powder with suspension stability for reactive latency
- Low chlorine contents, inhibit deterioration & electrolytic corrosion
Packaging, storage and precautions:
1. Polyethylene lined paper plastic composite bags or PE bags, with a net weight of 25 kg each;
2. Cartons (lined with two layers of polyethylene plastic bags), with a net weight of 20kg each;
3. Store in a cool and dry place, avoid direct heating, and pay attention to moisture protection;
4. It is valid for 1 year at normal temperature. It can be used after passing the test after exceeding the shelf life
